Wifi Audio Streaming

DLNA

The DLNA is non-profit collaborative trade organization, which created guidelines to create a way of sharing media between devices. DLNA standards are base on using the UPnP protocol in which users are able to stream digital data through a network (most often through Wi-Fi). The functionality is very similar to that of the Airplay however the DLNA standards are compatible with a wider range of devices whereas the Airplay is limited to only Apple devices. The DLNA has over 200 contributing members and over 20 promoter members including the world known Google, Sony, Nokia, Microsoft as well as many other well established companies worldwide.

Airplay

Airplay is a wireless technology developed by Apple Inc. and is come readily available in all new Apple devices (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Macbook, Apple TV etc.). The Airplay protocol uses Wi-Fi technology to stream music and videos between devices, for example the iPad could be mirrored onto the TV, it can also allow certain devices to operate as remote controls. When streaming music, Airplay can display song titles, tracks and even lyrics but what makes the Airplay a truly powerful protocol is the ability to stream HD quality videos with absolute fluidity. Airplay is also very easy to use on Apple devices, there is minimal set-up required and very few required installations (if any at all).

Multi-room streaming

Multroom wireless systems use the smartphone, tablet or computer as the primary interface and remote control. The smart phone apps for those systems include access to an assortment of Internet streaming music services such as Spotify, TuneIn, Pandora and more. Most systems also can play music from a hard drive attached to the home network or directly from your mobile device. All of them use some variant of Wi-Fi as the method of wirelessly sending music to the speakers at home, and they connect directly to the home network to access online music channels.
